The Shared Apple

📖 Story⏱ 3 min read🧒 Ages 3 to 7💛 Value: Sharing

Every day, at six thirty sharp, Ice gets an apple. He is a living clock: not one minute early, not one minute late. Deb cuts the apple into little pieces, takes out the seeds and puts everything in the little red bowl.

That Saturday, Paco, the boss of the good-guys gang from doggy daycare, arrived bright and early to spend the day at the apartment. At six thirty sharp, there was Ice's apple in his little bowl.

Paco looked at the apple. Then he looked again. His tummy made a very loud noise: grrrumble!

Ice and Paco in the living room

Ice hugged his bowl. "It's my apple," he thought. "My six-thirty apple!" Up near the ceiling, Jubs rolled her eyes: "Ugh..." And Gattuso, without a word, made a face like he was waiting to see what would happen.

Ice thinking, with Jubs and Gattuso floating nearby

Ice looked at Paco, who was now pretending to watch a fly on the window. He remembered the day Grandma shared her last carrot stick with him.

So Ice nudged the bowl with his nose: "Want half?" Paco gave the biggest smile in the whole building.

They ate together, piece by piece. And Ice discovered something funny: a shared apple tastes twice as good.

Afterwards, they played all day long. And that night, Ice fell asleep on the couch and dreamed of a whole orchard in Lolo Land, full of apples for all his friends.
